FAQ About Wedding Insurance
Your wedding is one of the most memorable days of your life. It’s a beautiful celebration of the love between you and your fiancé, and even better, you get to share those memories with your loved ones.
Your wedding day is going to be magical regardless of how you celebrate, but before you say “I do,” you need to know that all weddings (like all events) come with risk.
The more moving parts you incorporate, the more risk you invite. However, that risk isn’t always a major problem—risk simply means more things can go wrong, but they won’t necessarily de-rail your day.
Small errors, like a few lost vases or some unexpected wedding guests, are easily remedied with a bit of re-organizing. You likely won’t even remember they were a problem when the day is over.
On the flip side, a vendor cancellation or a technical breakdown can seriously re-route your plans. These kinds of problems can make it hard to have the day of your dreams. Luckily, there’s a way to mitigate these concerns and solve your problems.
To ensure you get hitched without a hitch, consider getting wedding insurance.
Although it may seem strange, you can insure your wedding. Wedding insurance covers many things, including incidental malpractice suits, injuries from your guests, property damage liability, and more.
Wedding insurance is a safeguard against emotional and financial burdens of all sorts, but not all wedding insurance is the same.
So, what exactly does Trucordia wedding insurance offer?
Let’s dive in!
Wedding Insurance FAQ
What exactly is wedding insurance?
Wedding insurance is a type of liability insurance for a one-time event.
Liability insurance covers things like…
- Legal fees from claims, even if the claims are groundless
- Ownership, use, or maintenance of facilities
- Medical fees from injuries to guests
- Property damage fees
In addition to these coverages, our standard wedding insurance policy includes…
- Liquor liability
A standard policy isn’t the only one we offer. We also offer a comprehensive wedding policy.
A comprehensive policy covers everything a standard policy does, but it also covers things like…
- A vendor cancellation
- A postponement
- Photographs/video
- Gifts
- Special attire
- Lost deposits
Usually, a wedding policy (whether comprehensive or standard) will cover an event lasting 24 hours, although you can get alter your policy to cover you for up to three days.
Is wedding insurance required?
Most of the time, wedding insurance is required by venues. Venues usually have vendor insurance or commercial property insurance to cover liability issues, but that doesn’t cover you in particular.
Is wedding insurance expensive?
Many couples don’t get wedding insurance because they assume it’s too expensive. After all, weddings aren’t cheap.
However, at Trucordia, we offer affordable policy options to make sure your financial stresses end before the honeymoon. Our agents will walk you through finding the right coverage at the lowest possible premium cost.
Plus, you have the option of getting a standard policy or a comprehensive policy, which will affect how much it costs.
How much does wedding insurance cost on average?
Typically, a standard wedding insurance policy is under $100. Our comprehensive policy can be about $450.
However, these are only estimates. Your policy will differ in price based on what coverage you need.
For example, if you have a comprehensive policy with additional liability limits and more protection for your vintage wedding bands, your price will increase.
Why should someone get standard wedding insurance?
Even if you’ve done everything you can do to prevent injuries or incidents, someone could still file a claim against you.
For example, say your venue is pristine. Every cord is taped to the floor, there’s nothing lying around, and all decorations are hanging out of the way.
But when your great Aunt Betty walks inside the venue, she trips on the sidewalk and twists her ankle. During the wedding, she complains about pain, and after the honeymoon, she slaps you with a lawsuit over her injury and emotional damage.
Or, another scenario:
You and your fiancé are excited to celebrate your big day at the venue of your dreams. Right after the ceremony, you and your wedding party go to the back of the venue to take some epic evening pictures. You decide to hand out some sparklers to light up the night. The sparks fall onto the dry grass and spark a fire that spreads up the back of the building. Now the venue is charging you for fire damage.
These examples are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to why you need wedding insurance. This policy would cover these costs so you don’t have to pay for repairs out-of-pocket. (Which means you can save your money for things like your upcoming honeymoon!)
In essence, getting wedding insurance protects you against accidents, lawsuits, damages, and more that could potentially derail your wedding.
Why should I get comprehensive wedding insurance?
If your event includes a guest list a mile long and a host of expensive components, a comprehensive policy is the best way to go. It will cover a variety of elements that a standard policy doesn’t include.
Here’s just one example of what this policy will cover:
It’s a month until your wedding, and it’s finally time to pick up your wedding dress and your fiancé’s tuxedo from the bridal shop. When you get there, though, the attendant tells you their delivery truck lost all of its cargo after a bad accident on I-5. Your dress and the tux are both completely ruined and unsalvageable.
What should you do?
Even with a standard wedding insurance policy, you’d have to shop for a new dress and tux, get alterations, and pray everything turned out in time.
With a comprehensive policy, you would have a set amount to cover special attire, so you could have some spending money to put towards a new dress and tuxedo.
Of course, a comprehensive policy covers more than just this, so if you’re wondering how to protect your big day, a comprehensive wedding insurance policy is the best plan.

Can I insure my dress/ring/tuxedo/flowers/photos?
Yes, you can insure your dress, ring, tuxedo, flowers, and photos! These items are all covered under a comprehensive wedding insurance policy. Sadly, a standard policy can’t cover these items.
Just remember: all insurance comes with limits. If you buy a $4,000 wedding dress, your policy might not cover the full cost to replace it. Talk to your Trucordia agent about the policy limits (and potentially adding more coverage).
You should also ask about adding coverage to other policies; for example, we offer engagement ring coverage through a homeowners or renters policy!
When do you need to get wedding insurance for it to take effect?
Ideally, you should get coverage as soon as you start making deposits. Most vendors need coverage three days beforehand, although you may be able to purchase 24 hours in advance (always check with your Trucordia agent, though, to make sure you’re properly covered).
What doesn’t wedding insurance cover?
Wedding insurance covers a lot, but it can’t cover everything. For example, it won’t cover hired vendors, like a DJ or a bartender. Although some vendor items (like photographs and flowers) are covered, vendors need their own vendor insurance.
It also won’t cover claims related to fungi/bacteria, lead poisoning, aircraft issues, pyrotechnics, and all occurrences that happened before the wedding.
Wedding insurance also won’t cover cancellations due to cold feet or typical bad weather.
Remember that even the best insurance has limits. You may need to get additional coverage if you’re throwing the wedding of the decade with hundreds of guests and a veritable forest of flowers.
Does wedding insurance cover alcohol?
Yes, it does!
Not all wedding insurance covers alcohol, but Trucordia’s wedding insurance (both standard and comprehensive) covers alcohol under liquor liability.
Liquor liability usually requires $1 million worth of coverage, but you can add more coverage if you need it.
Does wedding insurance cover a destination wedding or a honeymoon?
No, our wedding insurance policy does not cover a destination wedding or honeymoon. This kind of coverage would be in the field of travel insurance, not wedding insurance.
All of us at Trucordia want to wish you congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. We hope that your day goes smoothly, and we’d love to be there for you to keep your celebration as magical as it could be!
